Events

These are the weekend events that led to Quinn and Molly's Wedding starting on 9/22/00. These events are given from my perspective, John Curnutt, Quinn's longtime friend and groomsmen. As with any personal account, it is biased towards my experience of the weekend and is by no means complete.

The Bachelor Party

The Bachelor Party began on Friday afternoon 9/22/00. We first met at Quinn's Grandmother's house on Wappo Hill where we were served Champagne and hors d' overes. Unlike many bachelor parties the Bride, her bridesmaids and friends were also in attendance. This was a great opportunity for the groups of both men and women to get together before the wedding and mingle.

After a couple of hours the men left the Mondavi's home and caravaned up-valley to Calistoga for dinner at a wonderful restaurant, Catahoula. This was a Cajun style restaurant where they had set a special table for the groom's party in the bar area of the restaurant. I feel they feared a raucous party. The food was excellent as was the atmosphere. After dinner we strolled to Hydro, a local Calistoga Bar. This is where the evening got interesting. Small groups began to form, talking about marriage, bicycle racing and personal philosophies on life. I don't know if it was the scotch, martinis, or the evening, but I had never seen such a diverse group of men sharing so much about themselves.

There was one last stop on the way back to Napa. It was getting late, around 1 a.m., and we felt the night would not be complete with out a drink from our friends Sayle and Paul Lynn who own the 1351 Lounge in St. Helena. Thank goodness for our designated driver Quinn's brother and best man Nathan Roberts. I know I surprised the group by dancing to Disco Inferno and drinking shots of "something fresh" with Quinn. All had a great time and this night will go down as one of the best in my book.

The Rehearsal

The entire wedding party met that the Catholic Church in St. Helena on Saturday afternoon 9/23/00 where we met the priest. We performed the rehearsal flawlessly. After the rehearsal we made our way to the rehearsal dinner hosted by Keith and Annie Roberts at La Familia Winery, half-way up the Oakville Grade. The view was spectacular overlooking the Napa Valley. The dinner was prepared by Annie's assistant. Amy and Quinn's good friend Lenny. After the dinner many speeches were delivered and gifts were given to the bridesmaids and groomsmen. The speech that moved me the most was delivered by Quinn's Father, Keith. It was a personal message about how Keith learned most of his lessons in life once he married Annie. Only by sharing both struggles and good times with another can one learn about themselves and eachother. Keith believes that Quinn and Molly are about to embark on a similar life journey. Keith's talk brought a tear to more than one pair of eyes.

The Wedding

We all reconvened at the Church in St. Helena on Sunday afternoon around 3pm 9/24/00. Many pictures were taken with family and friends. The Wedding itself was a full Catholic Mass though it had more music than I have ever experienced at a Mass, including a beautiful Ave Maria. Quinn and Molly took there vows before God and us as their witness. With the simple words. "Quinn and Molly, I pronounce you man and wife" they became a union of two souls now one. After the Wedding I met some people who I had not seen in years and looked forward to talking to them at the Reception that followed the wedding.

The Reception

The Reception was held following the wedding at Sequoia Grove just North of the Robert Mondavi Winery in Oakville. The couple entered the reception on a golf cart with full fan fare. Guests arived and signed a 6 liter of Cabernet Sauvignon which the couple will refill for their future anniversaries. The oyster bar was a huge sucess with many hovering to sample some of the best pacific coast oysters I have ever tasted. Before dinner was served Molly's Father, Jim, told a witty story of how Quinn asked his permission to marry his daughter. Nathan also delivered a well thought out speach comparing Quinn and Molly's marriage to a fine wine. After dinner, dancing commenced with a blues band Quinn and Molly had seen in Oakland. As the night drew on Quinn played guitar with the band. The song they paid escapes me but Quinn is quite a showman. After the cake was served and stomachs were sated I bid Quinn an Molly a quick goodbye and wished them luck on thier new adventure together.

I hope they can use these pages not only to remember the events of this weekend but decide to share them with others who may not have been able to join them. From all of us, congratulations and the best of wishes. Love John and Jennifer
